Invention of Coffee Filters..

Filtered coffee is quite the craze these days. Melita Bentz, a German housewife, invented the filter for coffee.

Melita used a trick to reduce the trouble of mouthing coffee particles stuck to the bottom of the cup while drinking coffee.

Her children used to use blotting paper while studying. She placed the paper in a metal cup with a hole. Filtered coffee from it and took another cup. The coffee grounds remained on this filter paper and the coffee without the coffee particles was filtered into another cup.

Melita patented this invention in 1908.

Later one thousand coffeemakers she designed were sold at the Leipzig trade fair in Germany. Later she started making her own filters. Melita filters are used everywhere today.
